CONVERSE
Founded in 1908 by Marquis Mills Converse in Malden, Massachusetts, as the "Converse Rubber Shoe Company," Converse initially produced rubber-soled footwear. The company introduced its canvas and rubber All-Star basketball shoe in 1917; player Chuck Taylor joined in 1921, leading to the "Chuck Taylor All Stars" rebranding with his signature. These shoes gained popularity among basketball teams and, after Taylor's 1969 death, shifted focus to casual consumers, becoming associated with punk-rock subcultures. Following financial difficulties, Converse became a subsidiary of Nike, Inc. in July 2003, marketing footwear, apparel, and accessories globally. ITOCHU Corporation holds exclusive rights for Converse products in Japan. The brand implements a certified social auditing program and aims to reduce environmental impact.
